Numerous components are brought together in a spa to emulate the calm environment of a natural hot spring. Unlike a whirlpool bathtub, Sonoma Spas are self contained and are crafted with acrylic/fiberglass. Different facets of the spa work together to heat up, filtrate and re-circulate the water. Periodic draining, cleaning, and refilling are necessary when the clarity of the water and balance gradually deteriorate.

Similar to a natural hot spring, heated water is used to provide a therapeutic effect. Hydrotherapy jets are situated within the spa below the water line. Massage like action is simulated by a forced stream of aerated water. Some Sonoma Spas offer swirl massage jets. Swirl massage jets generate a pulsating, massage like flow of water that targets a greater area of the body than hydrotherapy jets.

The spa support system, located in the center of the spa, operates the heating, filtering and circulating of the water. The spa works to draw the water through the drain(s) and a skimmer, and then flows through the pump and heater. The heated water is pushed out of the hydrotherapy jets. A thermostat is used to activate this cycle that either heats the water or preserve a minimum level of circulation. The low speed setting acts to filter the spa water and the heater cycles as needed to maintain a constant temperature. The user can activate the high speed setting to enhance the flow of water being pushed through the jets.
